2023's Hot Topic! Health!

Updated: Apr 1, 2023

Health and wellness are one of the fastest growing areas of interest in 2023. Seeing an unprecedented boost in popularity for all areas of self-care, plant based medicines and entheogenic plants have really transformed their image!

Natural compounds like terpenes, CBD and BCP have always been notoriously misunderstood, but that’s okay! We are here to help you learn about what could be a game changer for your physical health and mental wellbeing.

Beta-caryophyllene or BCP oil is a natural substance found in hundreds of natural sources such as hemp, black pepper, cayenne and copaiba root. It’s an active, macro-cyclic anti-inflammatory that’s been shown to have beneficial effects on the body and its inflammatory and hormonal regulation systems. This blog post will teach you everything you need to know about BCP – or give you a great refresher on the basics if its been a while!

What’s BCP oil and where does it come from?

BCP, as we mentioned is found widely in nature, most commonly found in hemp, black pepper, cloves and basil; it can also be found in smaller amounts in hops, rosemary and cinnamon. It has a tangy, peppery smell reminiscent of wood or black pepper – a smell you are no doubt familiar with…

BCP is one of the most potent of the terpenes, when used as a flavouring agent in foods it is classified as a GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe)substance, one of only a handful of compounds to share this designation. Beyond being safe as a food additive, recent studies have shown that it can potentially help end nicotine reliance, regulate inflammation and help your wounds heal faster.

Terpenes are highly regular compounds found in every aromatic plant (and most plants you would consider aromatic either) and are responsible for creating the taste profiles and scents you associate your favourite foods with! Each combination of terpenes from various plants can have all kinds of beneficial health benefits. E.g., myrcene (found in our Relieve blend) is known to work with your nervous system and gut biome to help ease feelings of tension that may be caused by an imbalance in said gut microbiome.

BCP specifically has a very complex relationship with your endo-cannabinoid system (ECS). It doesn’t always work alone either, BCP is a highly cooperative compound known to have ‘knock on’ effects when combined with other compounds (zinc, vitamin b12, THC, CBD and more) making our products even more effective!

To keep the science simple! Your body has receptors for cannabinoids (in the ECS); CB1 and CB2. The research says that BCP binds to our CB2 receptors, causing many of the effects people experience from consuming concentrated BCP. There are studies that say that it reduces inflammation body wide, especially in the brain and lymph nodes. This can reduce the chemicals the cause oxidative stress and cause hypertension and stroke. Metabolic disorder sufferers also may note a noticeable decrease in their anxiety and stress symptoms, usually caused by a domino effect of improved hormonal regulation because of a reinvigorated endocannabinoid system, something (sadly) very common because of a lack of dietary cannabinoids in most adult’s diets.
